Happy Easter, or My Ode to Easter Candy

chocolate_easter_bunnies_my_butt_hurts_whatToday’s Blog is devoted to all things Easter. Let us first take a moment to recognize the miracle that is Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs. Thicker than regular peanut butter cups, there is something about the chocolate to peanut butter ratio that is sublime. I’ve tried all the other variations of Reese’s holiday themed treats: pumpkins, hearts, and christmas trees. While they are quite yummy, and I wouldn’t refuse one if offered, they are not the same as the egg.

From childhood, I remember Easter egg-shaped gum. It came in a pink, blue, or yellow specked egg form which was hollow. It had a fruity flavor that faded within five minutes at which point the gum turned into unchewable rubber. But those first five minutes were bliss.

Jelly beans are the lesser evolved cousins of Jelly Bellys. I’ve always wondered if the rainbow of Jelly Belly flavors inspired J.K. Rowling’s Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. My favorite flavor was tangerine. My least favorite flavor was popcorn.

What Easter blog would be complete without mentioning Peeps. I have never been a fan of marshmallows unless they were floating in a cup of hot cocoa or they were part of the culinary menage a trois known as s’mores. I saw watermelon flavored peeps the other day. They were olive-green with pink on the inside. I was not tempted to try them.

What’s your favorite Easter treat?
